, this is a game played with three dice. Usually the dice are placed in a cage shaped like an hourglass, bets being settled after the cage is turned over to make the three dice fall to another end and thus pokerstars show new faces. Occasionally the fall of the dice is accomplished by putting them into a chute which covers their faces as they land on the table, until the bets have been placed and the chute is removed to reveal them.
Some houses use a very simple layout which provides only for bets on any one of the six numbers on each die; other layouts are far more complex, permitting bets on high ni.nflbers, low numbers, odd and even numbers, triplets (raffles), and even specific combinations of the three dice.

When such a layout is used,

specific odds are offered on each available bet.

* If the shooter's first roll is the pokerstars barred number,

the bettor does not win his bet against the house; he may withdraw it, or may leave it to be settled by the next roll or series of rolls. Superficially, it would appear that the house has no edge if it pays -even money on a straight number bet; the bettor apparently has three chances in six to have his number show. But this overlooks the effect of doublets or triplets, for which the house still pays only even money. Bet a chip on each number and theoretically you should break even. But if the dice fall, for example, 1.1-2, you lose four chips and get back only two; if they fall 1-1-1, you lose five
